Setup: Web, Communication and Social Media
Please follow instructions below to set up our web-based communication for the year, including grading, scheduling, writing and more. It's imperative that you do this right at the beginning of the school year.
Step 1: Login to your Google account: You may use a personal Gmail account or your PSBMA account. If you use an email address other than Gmail, you may continue to do so, and set up your Gmail to forward to that account. We (Grande/Leslie) will correspond with you using the email address you provided on your Social Justice application (Click to set up email forwarding). IMPORTANT: You'll need to write ALL of your homework assignments in the Google Account that is shared with me and linked to Canvas (see below).

Step 2: Google Drive: From your Google account, select Drive (menu on top). Drive is your collection of folders and documents where you will store work from this class. Follow these steps:

Step 3: Canvas and homework: You will write all of your assignments as a Google Doc, store them in the appropriate quarter folder (Google Drive), and then submit them on Canvas for credit. It’s actually very easy. Go to: http://brookline.instructure.com (Canvas) and login.
Go to your Social Justice course. Click Settings, then Profile. Below you’ll see “registered services;” to the right, click “Google Docs.” If you use Facebook, you can click Facebook to receive notifications on your wall. Follow instructions that allow Canvas to access your Google Docs. Your login is: year of grad last name first initial (ie. 14Jjohnsonl). Unless you changed your password last year, it is your student ID.
To submit a social justice assignment on Canvas:
Class website: Spend time on the website: bhssocialjustice.weebly.com.
- Login: Two digit year of graduation + last name + first initial + @psbma.org. If Mr. Grande were graduating in Spring 2016 my login/email would be "[email protected]"
- Password: Use the same password as last year. IF YOU ARE A NEW CANVAS USER: Initial Password: psb + student id. Now, change your password.
- You can find your Student ID [called LASID] on: Official school documents, Report cards, student ID card, and the X2 portal.
- Click on “Settings” in the upper right-hand corner. On the right side of the page, add your email so that you get emails from your teacher. Also add your cell # if you wish to receive texts when grades are posted
- IMPORTANT: Do NOT search Google for "CANVAS"--this will lead you to the wrong site. You need to use "brookline.instructure.com"

To submit a social justice assignment on Canvas:
- Double Click and open the online Unit folder that we are working in (ex. 1ST QUARTER). Click "NEW, then select "Google Docs." It will create a document and store it in your unit folder. Give it the label on the syllabus (ex. "1.3 Race and Identity").
- Paste the prompts from the syllabus into your document, then add your responses.
- Once you have completed the assignment, go to CANVAS and select your Social Justice course, then the proper assignment. Click "SUBMIT" then follow the prompts to "CHOOSE FILE" which will take you to your Google Drive. Find the proper assignment and click it. Copy the prompts from the Syllabus and paste them into your new document.
