Outside opportunities
- Bikes not Bombs volunteer night (click): Thursdays, 7-10 pm. Work may include: "Flattening" bikes -- turning the handle bars sideways and the pedals inside-out so that the bikes fit easily into a shipping container to send overseas in our international programs; "Stripping" bikes -- taking all the parts off of a frame (needs to be done for bikes that have some broken pieces); Sorting parts; Other things too! A volunteer coordinator will show you what to do, and no experience is required.
- Partners In Health volunteer night (click): Volunteer night is an opportunity to drop in, hear an update from the field, and contribute a few hours of work. No previous volunteer experience is necessary. Light dinner and brief orientation will be provided. Directions to the PIH Boston office will be sent to confirmed volunteers.
- Brookline Educators for Social Justice conference volunteer. Help out at this annual May conference that BHS's Mr. Grande and Ms. Leslie co-founded.
- Attend a social justice conference

Program jobs
Each student will work with at least one other (from the same seminar group) to manage, plan and coordinate one aspect of the Social Justice Program. Please see job descriptions below, then indicate your top three choices on the preference sheet (click): Student Job Preference Sheet.

2 End of year Certification Ceremony
During the last school week for seniors, students from the Social Justice program, invited family members and friends, and students accepted into the Program for the following year meet for an evening event to hear nominated speeches, recognize the process of becoming a social justice advocate and witness students receive their Social Justice Certification. - Assign, coordinate and track pot luck food/drink
- Purchase supplies (tablecloths, cutlery, napkins, etc.)

- Arrange with BATV to video event and prepare segments as online videos.

The full student body is invited to wander among tables representing various social justice organizations that offer summer opportunities and/or training. Student organizers will:

- Craft a letter and invite organizations to attend or send materials; will manage RSVPs on a spreadsheet.
- Set up and clean up room
- Provide refreshments
- Promote the event for weeks in advance (poster, announcements, letters to Program Leaders, Guidance, etc.).
- Research additional programs
- Prepare content for Program web page.

- Identify and cite additional social justice quotations, and information about writers of quotes.

- Create content for the awards page (http://bhssocialjustice.weebly.com/student-awards-and-distinction.html) by researching awards and media attention given to Social Justice Program students (Youth Commission, 21st Century Fund, Brookline Community Foundation, other).

Every application to the Social Justice Program is reviewed and evaluated by a team which includes three current students in the Program. Students in this group will review and score applications and meet approximately 4 times in the Spring to discuss and decide on applications. Requires maturity and discretion (privacy).

7 Social Media and Blogger
- Activate a Social J Program Facebook page and group
- Contact alumni and create space for each cohort of students
- Post notices of events, updates on students and occasional articles of interest on our Facebook, including student internships. You'll act as a Program reporter and speak to students in the Program about their internships and activism over the year.

Attend a 3-4 meetings during the evening or on the weekend between February-May of the Youth Awards Committee of Brookline Youth Resources Commission to nominate and evaluate Brookline youth for service work awards. Participate actively in the call for nominations and review process; assist with planning the annual Youth Awards program itself in May; and plan to attend and possibly speak briefly at the program. 10 Social Justice Film Series Coordinator
- Work with Krissie Jankowski of Brookline TV to run a film series for students and community members.
- Decide on films (consult with Mr. Grande). List
- Promote and advertise series (Sagamore, Tab, posters, notifications to community groups)
11 Mission Statement Nomination Committee
Read all end of year Mission Statements, discuss and nominate two leading essays to be read at final ceremony. Winning students will receive a gift subscription to a social justice magazine.

12 Social Justice Program Bulletin Board
This pair of artistically inclined students will set up and change the board 3 times a year: Fall, Winter and Spring. You'll post notices of events, like the movie series, Hunger Banquet, Intellijam and more, and update what the Social Justice clubs are doing. The board is across from room 303 and should include:
