The House I Live In
MLK Room
In the four decades since the War on Drugs commenced, more than 45 million drug addicts have been arrested—and for each one jailed, another family is destroyed. Meanwhile, prisons in America are overcrowded with non-violent criminals, and illegal drugs are still sold in schoolyards. This very intense film examines the extent that people--especially poor and people of color--are being locked up, and the consequences of those policies. Trailer

Waiting for Superman

This film analyzes the failures of the American public education system by following several students as they strive to be accepted into a charter school. Unpopular with teacher unions, the film both illuminates educational inequality, and criticizes unions for not addressing the problem. It is sure to inflame and spark strong debate. Trailer

WastelandRoom TBD
Wasteland follows artist Vik Muniz as he journeys to the world’s largest garbage dump on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro and photographs the pickers of recyclables, documenting their journey as they begin to rebuild their lives. This film is an amazing testimony to human dignity and the transformative power of 'disposable' people. The film slowly corrals your emotions, which will likely crescendo and cascade in the end.
